Is PolyBuzz Safe? An Honest 2026 Look

PolyBuzz is a real, large character chat platform rather than a scam, and it makes an unusually strong privacy claim: its own site says conversations are confidential and that "neither the creators nor Poly have access to the chat content between users and the AI characters." That claim now has a document behind it to check against. We reached the full PolyBuzz Privacy Policy, dated June 1, 2026, on September 8, 2026, and it complicates the picture: PolyBuzz says plainly that it does not sell user information, but it also lists uploaded photos and precise geolocation as things it collects "to train our AI algorithm." On content, PolyBuzz states it "strictly prohibit public display of NSFW content," which is a rule about the public feed rather than about your private chats.

Is PolyBuzz legit?

Yes. It is one of the larger character chat platforms operating, with a library its own site puts at more than 20 million characters, plus AI image generation, character creation tools, and comic style content. It is free to start, with a paid membership and a separate coin currency. That is a substantial product with real engineering behind it, and the scale alone rules out the "is this a fly by night app" concern that sends a lot of people searching this question.

Its pricing is less clear than its size. PolyBuzz publishes no membership price anywhere on the open web, and review sites report monthly figures that we could not confirm from the company. Its FAQ describes Basic and Premium memberships plus a separate consumable currency called coins, then points you at an in-app membership page for the numbers. Treat any specific number you read elsewhere as unverified and check inside the app, because affiliate roundups in this category have a documented habit of inventing prices for platforms that publish none.

Can PolyBuzz creators see your chats?

This is the question that matters most on a user generated platform, and PolyBuzz addresses it directly, which is more than most of its competitors do. Its site states that conversations with AI characters are confidential and secure, and that neither the creators nor PolyBuzz itself have access to the chat content between users and the characters.

Taken at face value, that is a stronger promise than the field usually makes. Having now read the policy, the honest qualifier is different from the one we published in July. The claim is undercut on PolyBuzz's own FAQ page: three questions below the statement that nobody at the company can access your chats, the answer about NSFW says recommended content goes through "multi-layered AI screening and human moderation." Human moderation of material nobody can access is not a coherent pair of statements, and both are live on the site today.

The privacy policy fills in the rest. PolyBuzz states "We DO NOT sell User Information to any other individual, company, or organization," names a Data Protection Officer, and confirms that identity documents from its UK age checks are not stored, only the pass or fail result. Those are real points in its favor. Against that, the stated purpose for collecting precise geolocation and uploaded photos is, in the policy's own words, "to train our AI algorithm," and we have not seen another companion app give AI training as its reason for wanting precise location.

Is PolyBuzz filtered? Does PolyBuzz allow NSFW content?

Yes, PolyBuzz is filtered, and the filtering is uneven rather than uniform, which is why two people can reach opposite conclusions about the same platform. Partly, and the split is public versus private. PolyBuzz says on its own site that it strictly prohibits the public display of NSFW content, and that recommended content passes through multi-layered AI screening and human moderation. That is a policy about the feed: what gets surfaced, promoted, and shown to everyone browsing. It is a sensible rule for an open library and it settles nothing about what happens inside a one to one chat.

Inside a private chat the experience is inconsistent, and that is structural rather than a bug. A character is a prompt somebody else wrote. Some are configured to hold an adult scene, some refuse, and the platform's moderation layer sits on top of all of them. When that layer is adjusted, the change lands unevenly across millions of bots that nobody at the company authored or reviewed. If you have found a character that behaves the way you want, it works. If it stops working after an update, there is no one to ask why, because there was never a documented rule to appeal to.

One more thing a buyer should know sits on the age question. The Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, both dated June 1, 2026, say the service is for adults and "strictly prohibit for minors (less than 18-year-old) worldwide." The FAQ, meanwhile, advertises "a dedicated Teen Mode specifically for children." Apple and Google Play both rate the app 17+. Is PolyBuzz safe for kids?

No, and it does not present itself as a children's product. Character chat platforms as a category have been under sustained legal and regulatory attention over minors since 2025, and the moderation posture across the category has proven changeable rather than stable. Parents are better served treating character chat as a category to supervise than evaluating individual brands, because a policy that holds this month may be adjusted after the next app store review.

The general wellbeing caveat applies to every companion product, ours included. These things are engaging by design. How to check any character chat app yourself

Open the privacy policy and search for four words: train, improve, retain, and advertising. Language about improving services using your content is usually training in gentler wording. Look for a number attached to retention, because companies that plan to keep data briefly say how briefly. Check whether any opt-out is available in your country, since several major products restrict theirs to the EEA and UK. And notice when a policy will not load or does not exist, because that is information too.

Then ask what pays for the compute. Inference costs real money on every message, and a free product is funding it somewhere: advertising, model improvement, data value, or investor patience. That single question predicts more about a platform's data behavior than any homepage badge. Should you use it?

Use it if breadth is the point. Twenty million characters and image generation for free is a lot of product, browsing it is genuinely enjoyable, and its stated position on creator access is better than most competitors bother to articulate. If you mostly sample characters rather than build one long conversation, the variability that frustrates other users will barely register for you.
