If you came here for one figure, that is a frustrating answer, so it is worth being clear about why we are not going to invent one. We read the PolyBuzz Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, both dated June 1, 2026, along with the full FAQ and both app store listings, on September 8, 2026. None of them states a monthly price. The numbers circulating in review roundups are user reports from particular countries during particular promotions, and they get copied between articles until they read like official rates. Your own subscription screen is the only figure that is actually about you.

How much does PolyBuzz cost?

Nothing to start, which is genuinely the point of the product. PolyBuzz is free to download on the App Store and on Google Play, and the FAQ puts it plainly: "PolyBuzz is accessible at no cost, or you can opt for a membership to unlock a more enhanced experience."

The cost of that membership is the part PolyBuzz keeps behind the install. There is no pricing page on polybuzz.ai, no tier table in the terms, and the FAQ answers questions about the difference between memberships by referring you to "the membership page" in the app. This is the same pattern we found when we priced up Replika, and it is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. A price you can only see after installing is a price you cannot compare against anything else while you are still deciding.

What the store listings do tell you is the shape of the spending. Google Play labels the app "Contains ads" and "In-app purchases," and records more than 50 million downloads with 4.1 stars across 1.17 million reviews. Apple lists it as free with a 4.4 average across roughly 472,000 ratings, last updated on September 5, 2026. Those are the verifiable numbers. The price is not among them.

What is the difference between Basic and Premium on PolyBuzz?

PolyBuzz documents the feature split even though it withholds the price. Both memberships, in its own words, "include stronger memory chat models, unlimited character voice listening, ad-free experiences, and more," while Premium members "enjoy additional benefits, such as access to more exciting chat models."

The line worth pausing on is "ad-free experiences" appearing as a paid benefit, because it confirms what the free tier is. You are not using a free product with an optional upgrade. You are using an advertising product, and the membership buys the advertising out.

What are coins used for on PolyBuzz?

Coins are the part that makes the sticker price misleading, and they are the reason a membership is not the whole of what you will spend. PolyBuzz describes them as "virtual currency used to enhance your chat experience," spent to "extend voice chat duration, regenerate character responses, access inspiration replies, or generate exclusive memory scenes."

Look at that list from the perspective of someone actually using the app. Regenerating a response is what you do when the character says something that breaks the scene, which on a platform of 20 million user-written characters happens often. Extending voice chat is what you do when a conversation is going well. In other words, coins are consumed precisely at the moments the product is working, and the more you enjoy it the faster they drain.

That is a legitimate business model and plenty of people prefer it, because a light user genuinely pays less. But it does mean the honest answer to "how much is PolyBuzz" is a membership plus an unpredictable coin habit, not a single monthly figure. If you are the sort of person who wants to see what your recurring software actually adds up to across a year rather than per charge, consumable currencies are the thing that quietly breaks the arithmetic.

Does PolyBuzz have ads, and what do they collect?

Yes, on the free tier, and the privacy policy is unusually specific about the mechanics. PolyBuzz states that it may allow third-party advertising networks to place tracking technologies on your device, and that these operators "may provide you with an ad based on your data includes GAID (Google Advertising ID on Android devices) or IDFA (Identifier for Advertising on IOS devices), region, location information and IP address." One ad partner is named directly in the policy as TopOn.

There is an opt-out, and PolyBuzz says using it means you receive standardized rather than customized advertising. There is also a genuine credit to give here: the same policy states "We DO NOT sell User Information to any other individual, company, or organization," and it names a Data Protection Officer to complain to. That is a clearer statement than several competitors manage.

The disclosure that surprised us sits elsewhere in the document. PolyBuzz lists the purposes it requests device permissions for, and gives the reason for precise geolocation as, quoted exactly, "to train our AI algorithm." Uploaded photos carry the same stated purpose. We have read a lot of these policies for this site and we have not seen another companion app give AI training as its reason for wanting your precise location. How do you cancel a PolyBuzz subscription?

Through whichever store sold it to you, never inside PolyBuzz. The FAQ gives step-by-step instructions for both: on iOS through Settings, your Apple ID, then Subscriptions, and on Android through the Google Play Store menu, then Subscriptions. PolyBuzz confirms that "your PolyBuzz subscription benefits will remain active until the end of the current payment period," so cancelling does not cut you off mid-month.

The refund position is stricter than the cancellation flow suggests, and it is set out in the terms rather than the FAQ. PolyBuzz states that "users are not entitled to any refund for a completed purchase without due reason," and goes further by saying no refund request will be accepted on the grounds that a child made the purchase by mistake. It also reserves the right to correct pricing errors and cancel orders, returning any money within 90 business days.

Because the store owns the billing relationship, deleting the app does not stop the charges. That catches people out on every app-store-billed subscription, not just this one, and it is the single most common way a companion app keeps taking money from someone who thought they had left months ago.

Is PolyBuzz worth paying for?

For a lot of people, honestly, yes. Fifty million downloads is not an accident. You get more than 20 million characters, image generation, character creation that imports Character.AI and TavernAI card formats, voice, and a free tier that works well enough to decide with. If breadth is what you want, no subscription in this category buys more surface area, and we do not match it.

The case against is consistency rather than cost. Because the characters are written by other users and sit on top of a moderation layer PolyBuzz only describes in terms of its public feed, the same request can land differently on two characters an hour apart.
