The right Xoul AI alternative depends on why you are leaving. If the problem is running out of energy, Xoul's own Purple plan at $14 a month removes the cap and you may not need to switch at all. If the problem is adult content, no Xoul plan fixes it: Xoul's Terms of Service ban requesting "any sexually explicit or pornographic content, including but not limited to such content in chats". For that, you need a product whose written rules allow it.

What Xoul AI costs in 2026
Xoul sells three plans on top of a free tier, and it meters two things at once. Energy pays for chat messages. Cells pay for everything multimedia: voice messages, calls, images and video. Here is what each plan buys, in Xoul's own words where it gives them.

Yearly billing "saves you 20% off the monthly price", which by our arithmetic puts Purple at about $11.20 a month, or $134.40 a year, and Green at about $5.60 a month. New accounts get a 7-day free trial.
The cells meter is where the bill grows. Playing a voice message costs 2 to 14 cells, a call costs 10 cells a minute, an image 1 to 6 and a video 20 to 60. Purple's 250 monthly cells cover about 25 minutes of calls and nothing else, and monthly cells "don't carry over". Extra cells are sold in packs that never expire. If you are paying for a plan plus packs, the true monthly total is hard to see on a card statement; an expense tracker that reads your receipts will add up every charge from the same merchant faster than you can.
Does Xoul AI allow NSFW?
No. Xoul's Terms of Service list, among prohibited activities: "Create, upload, post, transmit, distribute, request, or solicit any sexually explicit or pornographic content, including but not limited to such content in chats, character creations, images, audio, or any other Contributions or Generations." The words "in chats" matter. The ban is not limited to public characters; it covers your private conversations too.
The FAQ says the same about published characters. Xouls or scenarios that feature "pornography, nudity" are removed, minor characters are not allowed in any role, and "repeated attempts may result in temporary/permanent account suspension." There is a settings page for "preferences for displaying sensitive content", but that controls what you see, not what the rules allow.
Xoul is 18 and over ("Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to use or register"), so this is not a teen platform being careful. It is a deliberate choice about what Xoul is, and paying for Gold does not change it. Purchases are also "non-refundable", so a subscription bought in the hope of looser rules is money you will not see again.
Why people look for a Xoul AI alternative
Four reasons come up, and they lead to different answers.
The energy cap. On the free plan, 100 energy is 25 to 50 messages a day, and the big Infinity model costs 6 energy a message, so one good evening of roleplay can use it up. Xoul lets free users watch up to 20 ads a day for more. If this is your only complaint, Purple at $14 is the cheapest fix, because it makes every chat model unlimited.
Paying twice. Voice, calls, images and video run on cells, so an active user can pay for a plan and still buy packs. If you mainly want text roleplay, you are paying for a currency you will not use.
Adult scenes. Covered above. Xoul's rules prohibit them in chats on every plan, so the honest answer is a different product, not a bigger plan.
Confidence in the app. The US App Store listing for Xoul AI was last updated on November 8, 2025 (version 1.010), with a 4.0 rating from 118 reviews, and the Privacy Policy still says "we do not engage in advertising" while the FAQ offers ads for energy. Neither is a reason to leave on its own. Together they suggest the web app is where Xoul's attention goes.

What Xoul does better than we do
Several things, and they are real. Xoul makes images, voice messages, calls and video; we do not make images or video. Its scenarios and world-building tools go further than a single companion. It has a free tier and a 7-day trial, and we have neither. And Green at $7 a month is cheaper than any plan we sell. If those matter more to you than adult content and a single bill, Xoul may still be the right place to pay.
