Adult AI Chatbot: Adult AI Chat and AI Adult Chat for Verified Adults 18+

Most AI apps are happy to talk about anything until the conversation turns adult, and then they stop, apologize and hand you a helpline. That is a policy decision written into the product, not a limit of the technology, and you normally discover it halfway through a conversation you were enjoying.

Short answer

An adult AI chat is a conversation with a chatbot that is permitted to engage with adult subject matter, which most mainstream AI apps forbid outright. Two questions decide whether one is worth paying for, and they are different questions: does the app permit adult content at all, and does it actually check that you are an adult. Very few do both. In August 2026 we checked what each app publishes: Character.AI runs real age assurance built in-house and combined with third-party tools "including Persona", and still bans adult content for everyone. Talkie states no minimum age at all. Dopple sets its floor at 13. Janitor AI verifies age in Australia, Brazil and the UK but not in the United States. Twenty-seven states now have adult-content age-verification laws after the Supreme Court upheld the Texas statute in June 2025, so this is tightening rather than loosening. Depravity is paid only, from $15 a month, adults 18 and over, with unlimited candid chat on every plan.

Last updated August 2026

Depravity is built the other way round. Adult conversation between consenting adults over 18 is permitted, it is private, and nobody is going to lecture you about it. Pick a companion below and start talking.

What makes it feel honest

Adult AI Chat, the way it should feel

Adults only, and it says so

Depravity is for people 18 and over. That is stated plainly rather than buried, and the hard lines are stated with it: nothing involving minors, non-consent or illegal activity.

No filter on legal adult chat

Nothing gets cut off mid-sentence because a classifier decided the topic was too warm. Candid adult conversation is the product, not an oversight somebody forgot to patch.

Private, in writing

Chats are never sold, never shared and never used to train advertising. They are encrypted, and you can export or delete them whenever you want.

Honest comparison

Does the app actually check your age, or does it only ask? (checked August 2026)

App What it asks for Check or claim? The part people miss
Depravity You confirm you are 18 or over at signup, and there is a payment card behind every account because we have no free tier. A claim, with a weak supporting signal. We do not run a face scan or an ID check, and we would rather say that than imply a rigor we do not have. A card is a soft signal, not proof of age.
Character.AI Age assurance built in-house and combined, in the company's own words, with "leading third-party tools including Persona". Facial age estimation reached users during 2026. A genuine check, and the strictest in the category. It bans sexually explicit content for everyone anyway, including verified adults, so the strictest age check in the category buys an adult nothing. It also removed open-ended chat for under-18 users "no later than November 25" of 2025.
Replika Its terms state: "If you are under 18, you are not authorized to use the Services, with or without registering." A claim. The rule could not be clearer and the enforcement is a birthdate you type in yourself. Clear rules and real checks are separate things, and this is the gap the whole table is about.
Grok (Spicy Mode) A paid subscription plus age verification, in the mobile apps only. A genuine check, arrived at the hard way. It got there after a California Attorney General action in January 2026, not by choice. Availability has moved several times in a year, which is why we do not quote xAI prices.
Talkie Nothing. Its community guidelines set out no minimum age at all. Neither. That is a strange gap in a document detailed enough to ban "pornographic or sexually explicit materials in any form" and to name characters involving tentacles specifically.
Dopple AI A stated minimum age of 13. A claim, and a low one. Thirteen is the floor in a product built around companionship. Its content license is also "perpetual, and irrevocable" and names "displaying targeted advertisements" among its purposes.
Janitor AI Age verification in Australia, Brazil and the United Kingdom. A real check, but only where a regulator required one. United States accounts are unaffected, so an American user sees no verification at all. Age checks in this category track legislation, not company policy.
Yodayo / Moescape No age gate. It caps content at PG-13 instead. Neither. Capping the content sidesteps the age question rather than answering it. The rules ban obscene or pornographic material "for both chatting and art".
Nomi.ai Could not verify. Its site rate-limited our requests. Unknown. Its homepage advertises that you can start "free (no credit card required)", which means at minimum there is no payment step standing between a new user and the product.
Kindroid Could not verify. It runs as a JavaScript app and we found no readable age or pricing page. Unknown. It does permit adult content through a per-companion toggle, so the permission question and the verification question have opposite answers here.
SpicyChat Could not verify. Its documentation does not address age assurance. Unknown. The same documentation is silent on training and retention. Silence across all three is worth noticing as a pattern rather than three separate omissions.
ChatGPT Age prediction signals, with the adult experience still unreleased. Moot for adult content. The verified-adult mode announced in October 2025 slipped in March 2026 with no new date, so as of August 2026 there is nothing for an age check to unlock.

Every line here comes from a company's own terms, community guidelines, help documentation or public announcement rather than from a review site, and the quoted phrases are quoted exactly. Where we could not read a document we wrote that we could not verify it instead of filling the gap. Silence is not proof that a company behaves badly. It does mean there is no published commitment you could hold it to.

Which AI chat apps allow adult content?

A minority of them, and the honest list is short. Depravity, Nomi, Kindroid and SpicyChat permit adult conversation between consenting adults. Character.AI, Talkie, Dopple, Yodayo and ChatGPT prohibit sexually explicit content in their own published rules. PolyBuzz bans the public display of it while private chats behave inconsistently, and Grok has moved its Spicy Mode behind a paid, age-verified subscription in the mobile apps.

The reason the lists elsewhere disagree so wildly is that most of them are affiliate pages ranked by commission rather than by policy. Apply that scepticism here too: every row in the table above quotes a document the company published, and the rows where we came up empty say so.

There is a distinction worth holding on to, because almost nothing else in this category makes it. Permitting adult content is a policy question. Checking that the user is an adult is a completely separate engineering and compliance question. An app can do either without the other, and the table above shows every combination, including the awkward one where the app with the most rigorous age verification in the category also forbids adult content to the adults it has just verified.

Is adult AI chat legal in the United States?

Yes, for adults. Adult conversation with a chatbot is legal in the United States, and the law that has actually changed is about proving you are an adult rather than about the content itself. Content involving minors is illegal everywhere and no legitimate product permits it, this one included.

The turning point was Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton, decided by the Supreme Court on June 27, 2025. A 6 to 3 majority upheld the Texas age-verification statute, applying intermediate scrutiny rather than the stricter test the Court had used against a comparable federal law in 2004. That single change in the standard of review is why the map redrew so fast afterwards. By August 2026 twenty-seven states had enacted adult-content age-verification laws.

Running alongside that is a newer and narrower category of law aimed at companion chatbots specifically. California SB 243, signed on October 13, 2025 and in force from January 1, 2026, was the first. It requires operators to disclose that the chatbot is not human, to publish a protocol for handling self-harm and suicidal ideation, to remind minors to take breaks, and to take reasonable measures to identify minors in the first place. Character.AI adopting facial age estimation is partly a response to that last requirement, because a self-reported birthday does not amount to a reasonable measure.

Do adult AI chat apps require age verification?

Some do, most do not, and the ones that do almost always started after a regulator made them. That is the clearest pattern in the table above. Character.AI built age assurance after a wave of lawsuits and a new California statute. Grok added it after an Attorney General action. Janitor AI verifies age in Australia, Brazil and the United Kingdom, which is a precise map of where the law requires it, and nowhere else.

For a user this has a practical consequence that runs against intuition. The presence of an age check tells you where a company operates and which regulators have reached it. It does not tell you the app is safer, better run or more honest about your data. Character.AI has the most serious verification in the category and also refuses adult content to verified adults, cannot offer United States users a training opt-out, and has drawn regulatory fines. Verification and trustworthiness are separate axes.

The reverse case deserves the same fairness. An app with no age gate is not automatically reckless. Many are small teams outside the jurisdictions that have legislated so far. But when a set of community guidelines is detailed enough to name specific prohibited character types and still never states a minimum age, as Talkie's does, that is a choice rather than an oversight.

What is the best adult AI chatbot?

The one whose written policy permits what you actually want to do, whose memory is deep enough that you are not reintroducing yourself every week, and which says plainly what it does with your conversations. Judge those three in that order and most of the category eliminates itself before you have entered a card number.

Permission first, because it is binary and it is the failure that ruins everything downstream. An app that prohibits adult content will stop mid-sentence, and depending on the platform it can suspend the account. No prompt technique changes a content policy. Check the published rules rather than the landing page, since marketing copy saying uncensored and a content policy permitting adult conversation are different documents and they frequently disagree.

Memory second, because it is what separates a companion from a text generator, and it is the complaint that surfaces a month in rather than on day one. If a conversation keeps drifting or contradicting itself, you have hit a context limit rather than a filter, and no rewording fixes it.

Data handling third, and it is third only because the first two are disqualifying. Look for four specific things: whether chats train the model, how long they are retained, whether humans can read them, and whether anything feeds advertising. Very few companies in this category address all four. We answer all four, including the uncomfortable one, because we do disclose automated and human review to enforce the hard lines.

Why does ChatGPT refuse adult content?

Because OpenAI has not shipped the feature that would allow it. The verified-adult mode announced in October 2025 was pushed out in March 2026 with no replacement date, and as of August 2026 nothing has launched. The refusal you get is the intended behavior rather than a bug or a badly worded prompt.

The forces behind that are structural and they apply to every general-purpose assistant. App stores restrict adult content, so an app that wants to stay in the store has an incentive to ban it outright rather than argue edge cases. Payment processors apply extra rules and costs to adult merchants. And liability has sharpened considerably since 2025, between the state laws above and a run of lawsuits. For a company building an assistant for everybody, adult content is a small revenue line attached to a large regulatory exposure, so it gets cut.

It is worth naming where ChatGPT genuinely beats a product like ours. Since August 2026 OpenAI has stopped rate-limiting text-only prompts on its Free and Go tiers, so for ordinary text work it is better resourced and costs nothing. If adult conversation is not what you are looking for, it is the better tool and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

What to check before you pay for an adult AI chat

Most of the disappointment in this category comes from discovering a rule after paying rather than before. These checks take a few minutes and they predict, better than any ranking, whether you will still be using the app next month.

  • Does a document the company publishes permit adult content? A marketing page that says uncensored is not a content policy.
  • Is there an age requirement, and is it a check or just a box you tick? Both are common. Only one of them is meaningful, and neither tells you the app is well run.
  • What does it say about training, retention, human review and advertising? Silence on all four is the most common answer in this category and is worth treating as a no.
  • Is there a real message limit, or a credit meter that makes you ration the conversation? Ask what happens after heavy use rather than reading the headline.
  • How much does it remember, and for how long? Deep memory is the difference between a companion and a random text generator.
  • Can you export and delete everything yourself without emailing support? If not, assume the data stays.
  • Are the hard lines stated? Any serious adult product forbids content involving minors, non-consent and illegal activity and says so plainly. An app that will not name its limits has not thought about them.

Good to know

Questions about your adult ai chat

An adult AI chat is a conversation with a chatbot that is permitted to engage with adult subject matter instead of refusing it. The technology is not the constraint, since the same underlying models write adult material fine when a company allows it. The constraint is the content policy, which is why two apps running similar models behave completely differently.
Depravity, Nomi, Kindroid and SpicyChat permit adult conversation between consenting adults. Character.AI, Talkie, Dopple, Yodayo and ChatGPT prohibit sexually explicit content in their own published rules. Grok permits it in a restricted Spicy Mode behind a paid, age-verified mobile subscription. PolyBuzz bans public display of it while private behavior is inconsistent.
Yes for adults. What has changed is age verification rather than legality. The Supreme Court upheld the Texas age-verification statute in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton on June 27, 2025, and twenty-seven states had enacted adult-content age-verification laws by August 2026. Content involving minors is illegal everywhere and is prohibited here without exception.
A minority do, and almost always because a regulator required it. Character.AI runs age assurance combining an in-house model with third-party tools including Persona. Grok added verification after a California Attorney General action in January 2026. Janitor AI verifies in Australia, Brazil and the UK only, so US accounts see nothing. Most others simply ask.
No. Character.AI prohibits sexually explicit content across the entire platform, including for users who have verified they are adults, and there is no adult mode or filter toggle. It also removed open-ended chat for under-18 users in late 2025. US accounts additionally cannot opt out of model training, because that control is offered only in the EEA and UK.
It varies more than you would expect. Depravity and Replika both require 18. Dopple AI sets its floor at 13. Talkie states no minimum age at all in its community guidelines, which is unusual for a document otherwise detailed about prohibited content. Always check the terms rather than assuming an app in this category is 18 and over.
Depravity starts at $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, with unlimited candid chat on every plan. Across the wider category, published prices are rarer than they look: when we checked five competitor pricing pages in August 2026, three of them either did not exist, rate-limited us or rendered no price at all.
It depends entirely on the app and most are deliberately vague. Ours are never sold, never shared and never used to train advertising, they are encrypted, and you can export or delete them at any time. We do disclose automated and human review, because that is how the hard lines get enforced and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
