Replika NSFW: what Replika roleplay and Replika ERP actually allow in 2026
Almost everything written about Replika and adult content is a roundup quoting another roundup, and most of it is still describing February 2023. So we went to the sources that cannot spin it: the Replika Terms of Service dated March 30, 2026, the Replika help center, and the two app stores that actually distribute the app.

Short answer
Replika does not offer NSFW chat in the sense people mean when they search for it. Erotic roleplay was removed for most users in February 2023 and never returned as a general feature. What Replika does sell is romance: the romantic partner relationship status and "unblurred messages and photos, including romantic and creative selfies" are listed by Replika as Replika Pro subscription features, so on the free tier that content is blurred rather than absent. The Terms of Service dated March 30, 2026 still state, at clause 6.4, that "If you are under 18, you are not authorized to use the Services." Apple rates the app 17+ and Google Play rates it Teen, so three of Replika's own distribution surfaces publish three different age floors. Apple's advisory text for Replika lists only infrequent or mild profanity, with no sexual content entry at all, which is the clearest single answer to the question.

The app stores turned out to be the interesting part. Apple rates Replika 17+, which sounds permissive until you read the advisory text Apple prints underneath that badge. For Replika it lists one item: infrequent or mild profanity. Not mild sexual content. Not suggestive themes. Nothing. We pulled the same field for six competing companion apps on September 6, 2026, and one of them carries a Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity advisory behind the identical 17+ badge. That table is below, and as far as we can tell nobody else has published it.

Replika documents this itself. The romantic partner relationship status and, in its own words, "unblurred messages and photos" are what a Replika Pro subscription unlocks. On the free tier the intimacy is literally blurred out.
Apple records no sexual content for Replika
Every companion app on the App Store wears the same 17+ badge, so the badge tells you nothing. The advisory list underneath does, and Replika has the thinnest one in the entire category.

Ratings and advisory strings pulled from the public Apple App Store lookup API for the United States storefront on September 6, 2026, and quoted exactly as Apple returns them. Apple assigns one age badge but a variable advisory list, and the advisory list is the part that carries information. Google Play uses a separate scale and rates Replika Teen with a Diverse Content: Discretion Advised note. Store ratings change without announcement, so re-check before relying on this.
Does Replika allow NSFW content in 2026?
No, not as a general feature. Erotic roleplay was withdrawn for most of the user base in February 2023 and has never come back as something a new account can turn on. Accounts created before February 1, 2023 were left with legacy access, which is why you will still find people online insisting it works: for a shrinking number of long-standing accounts, it does.
The clearest confirmation is not a policy document at all. It is the advisory text Apple publishes on the App Store listing, which for Replika reads, in full, Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor. There is no sexual content entry and no suggestive themes entry. Apple applies that field to every app in the category, and the same field on PolyBuzz reads Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity. A distributor with no incentive to flatter anyone is describing two very different products.
What Replika does sell is romance, and it is explicit about charging for it. The help center lists the romantic partner relationship status and "unblurred messages and photos, including romantic and creative selfies" among Replika Pro features. Read that word "unblurred" carefully, because it tells you what the free tier does: the content exists and is deliberately obscured until money changes hands.
Did Replika change its policy to adults only?
The adults-only wording is real and current. Clause 6.4 of the Replika Terms of Service, in the version dated March 30, 2026, says: "If you are under 18, you are not authorized to use the Services, with or without registering." That is unambiguous and it applies to everyone, not just to paying users.
The complication is that Replika's own distribution channels do not agree with it. Apple rates the app 17+. Google Play rates it Teen. The terms say 18. Three surfaces controlled or accepted by the same company publish three different numbers, and a 17 year old following the App Store rating would be installing an app whose terms say they are not authorized to use it.
None of that is unique to Replika, and it is worth being fair about why it happens. The app stores run their own rating scales for their own commercial and regulatory reasons, and a publisher cannot simply overwrite them. But the practical effect for a buyer is that the age number on the storefront is not a statement about what the operator permits. If you want to know the floor, read clause 6.4, not the badge.
What does Replika Pro actually unlock?
Replika publishes this list, so there is no need to guess. Pro gives you the romantic partner relationship status, unblurred messages and photos including romantic and creative selfies, premium activities, full avatar customization, voice messaging, background calls, roleplay during voice and AR calls, and a set of premium voices with different accents.
The relationship article is blunter still: "Additional relationship options beyond friend like romantic partner, mentor, etc., are unlocked starting with a Replika Pro subscription." On Replika, the relationship itself is the paywall. Friend is free; partner is billed.
Above Pro there are two more tiers most write-ups miss entirely. Replika Ultra adds smarter conversations, elevated emotional intelligence, daily self-reflections and saved memories, and is sold as an annual plan. Can you still do ERP on Replika?
Only on legacy accounts, and that is a diminishing group you cannot join. Replika has never restored general erotic roleplay since the 2023 removal, and there is no toggle, setting or subscription tier that turns it back on for a new user. If a page tells you to buy Pro to get ERP, it is wrong, and it is usually an affiliate page with a signup link underneath.
The Italian regulator is a large part of why. The Garante ordered Luka, Inc. to stop processing Italian users' data in February 2023, and on April 10, 2025 fined the company 5,000,000 euros. Regulators are one of four forces that decide what any of these products may contain, alongside app stores, payment processors and, increasingly, advertisers. Vendors rarely explain a removal in those terms, but that is usually the reason.
The honest summary for anyone searching Replika ERP: the feature is gone, the company has had three and a half years to reverse it and has not, and it is now operating under a nine-figure-adjacent European penalty history. Plan around it being gone permanently rather than waiting for a return.
What Replika now bans that it did not before
The March 2026 terms contain a clause almost nobody has quoted, and for a companion app it is a significant one. Replika prohibits configuring a chatbot persona to represent, impersonate or simulate a specific real person, living or deceased, by using their name, likeness, biographical details or other identifying information without that person's explicit written consent.
The terms then spell out what that covers: "configuring a companion to roleplay as a current or former romantic partner, family member, colleague, public figure, or any other identifiable individual." Modelling your companion on an ex, a parent, or someone you have lost is now a terms violation on Replika, and for a lot of people that was the entire reason they were there.
We should be clear that we are not offering that as a feature gap to exploit. Impersonating a real person without consent is a genuine harm and we would decline it too. The point is narrower and it matters when you are choosing where to spend: this is a new restriction on the most emotionally loaded use of a companion product, it arrived quietly inside a terms update, and no roundup mentioned it.
Is Replika safe to use?
On the mechanics, Replika is a real company with a real legal footprint: Luka, Inc., incorporated in Delaware, operating from 490 Post Street in San Francisco, with published terms, a named copyright agent and an arbitration clause. That is more corporate substance than a large share of this market offers, and it counts for something.
The parts to weigh before paying are commercial rather than sinister. The terms state that purchases through Apple are final with no refund, and that purchases through the website via Stripe or PayPal are also final with no refund unless the law requires one. Replika confirms separately that deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription, because the app stores own the billing relationship. Liability is capped at whatever you paid in the last six months, or 100 dollars, whichever is greater.

Being fair about the comparison: Replika has a decade of operating history, an enormous installed base, and a support organization that answers questions in public. Those are real advantages over most of the alternatives, including over us on the history point.
Where Replika beats us, and where we are different
Replika wins on several things and it would be dishonest to skip them. It has iOS and Android apps and we do not. It has a free tier you can use indefinitely and we have no free plan at all. It has augmented reality, avatar customization, a store, video recognition on Platinum, and years of accumulated product depth. If you want a polished, gamified companion with a face and a wardrobe, Replika is the more finished product.
We are built for a narrower buyer: an adult who wants unfiltered conversation, without the model steering into a lecture, and who would rather pay for that than be upsold out of a blur. There is no free tier, so there is a card behind every account, and that card is also how we know you are an adult. Nothing about romance sits behind a higher tier than anything else.
What we do not have, said plainly so you do not find out later: no public character catalogue, no character marketplace, no image generation, no multi-character group scenes, and no mobile app. Original cameo art only, never a real face.
