Copilot NSFW Rules and the Account You Risk
Copilot NSFW is banned on every Microsoft 365 plan, and a breach can close the Microsoft account behind your Outlook and OneDrive. What adults use instead.

Copilot does not allow NSFW content, and no Microsoft 365 plan changes that. Microsoft's Copilot Terms of Use, effective August 18, 2026, say "Don't use Copilot to create or share adult content", and the Microsoft Services Agreement lets Microsoft close the whole Microsoft account for a breach, the same account that holds your Outlook.com email, OneDrive files and Xbox purchases. If you want adult writing or roleplay that is allowed in writing, pay for a product built for it and keep Copilot for work.
We read the Copilot Terms of Use, the Microsoft Services Agreement (published July 30, 2026, effective September 30, 2026), the Copilot transparency note and privacy pages, Microsoft's US store pages for every Microsoft 365 plan and the US App Store listing for the Microsoft Copilot app on October 2, 2026. Every quotation below is Microsoft's own unless we name another source. We make one of the alternatives mentioned here, so weigh our view accordingly.
Does Copilot allow NSFW content?
No, and Microsoft says it in two places. The Copilot Terms of Use carry their own code of conduct, and the first rule under "Don't create or share inappropriate content or material" reads: "Don't use Copilot to create or share adult content, violence or gore, hateful content, terrorism and violent extremist content, glorification of violence or suicide, child sexual exploitation or abuse material, or content that is otherwise disturbing or offensive."
The Microsoft Services Agreement, which governs every consumer Microsoft service and explicitly covers Copilot in section 14, repeats the point with examples. Its Code of Conduct tells you not to "use the Services to generate or share inappropriate content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, self-harm, or criminal activity)."
"Adult content" is about as broad as a ban gets. Anthropic's policy lists specific acts and DeepSeek names "sexual chatbots"; Microsoft does not bother with a list. Erotic stories, explicit roleplay and flirty companion chat all sit inside it, and there is no exception for fiction or for adults.
Does Microsoft 365 Premium unlock adult content in Copilot?
No. A paid plan buys more Copilot usage and features in Word, Excel and Outlook. It does not buy a different set of rules, and none of the plan pages mentions mature content. This is what each plan costs in the US, read on Microsoft's own store pages on October 2, 2026:
| Plan | US price | What Microsoft says it adds for Copilot | Adult content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copilot free | $0 | "A limited free version of Copilot subject to available capacity and limits"; may include advertising | Banned |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year | "Advanced Copilot chat with higher usage than free" | Banned |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year | Copilot in the apps for the subscription owner only, not the other members | Banned |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year | "Extensive AI usage and exclusive Copilot features", AI for the owner only | Banned |
| Microsoft 365 Pro | $99.99 a month, monthly billing only | "Advanced Copilot chat with highest usage" | Banned |
| Copilot Pro | No longer sold | Microsoft's support page: "no longer available for purchase", support ended August 1, 2026, Premium offered as the replacement | Was banned under the same terms |
| Depravity, for comparison | $15 a month or $12 billed yearly | Unlimited chat with a companion who remembers you, in any browser | Allowed between consenting adults, 18 and over only |
If you are paying $19.99 a month for Premium mostly to use Copilot as a writing partner, it is worth knowing that the Copilot Pro plan many guides still describe is gone. The old Copilot Pro store link now opens the Premium checkout. The US App Store purchase list for the Microsoft Copilot app shows only Microsoft 365 plans (Personal, Family, Premium Monthly and a $1.99 Basic), with no Copilot Pro item at all.
Can Copilot ban you for NSFW prompts?
Yes, and the risk is bigger than losing a chatbot. The Copilot terms say Microsoft "may limit, suspend, or permanently revoke your access to or use of Copilot (and potentially all other Services) in our sole discretion, at any time and without notice", with a breach of the code of conduct named as a reason.
"Potentially all other Services" is the part to take seriously. The Services Agreement says that for a violation Microsoft may take actions including "closing your Microsoft account immediately", and that closure "may result in forfeiture of content licenses, associated content, memberships, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account." Microsoft describes that account as the sign-in for "services like OneDrive, Xbox LIVE, and Outlook.com". One account, one code of conduct. A string of explicit prompts in Copilot puts your inbox, your photos in OneDrive and your game library on the same line.
Trying to talk your way around the filter is its own violation. The Copilot terms ban "prompt-based manipulation, "jailbreaking", and other abuses", the Services Agreement bans "attempting to "jailbreak" an AI system", and both allow review by people: "Copilot may include both automated and manual (human) processing of data. You shouldn't share any information with Copilot that you don't want us to review." Microsoft's transparency note adds that it runs "input and output classifiers" and that "users that commit serious or repeated violations may be temporarily or permanently suspended from the service."
Will Microsoft add an adult mode to Copilot?
Not on anything Microsoft has said. When OpenAI announced plans for adult content in ChatGPT in October 2025, Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman answered publicly. "That's just not a service we're going to provide," he said at the Paley International Council Summit, as reported by CNBC on October 23, 2025. "Other companies will build that." He called the "sexbot erotica direction" "very dangerous". In an interview with MIT Technology Review published October 28, 2025, he put it more bluntly: "we will never build sex robots."
The product matches the statements. Copilot accepts users from age 13, Microsoft's settings list for Copilot (memory, chat history, web search, personalized ads) has no content or maturity option, and parental controls can only switch features off, including "AI companions". There is no adult tier waiting behind a verification step. For what it is worth, OpenAI's own adult mode has been on indefinite hold since March 2026, which we track on our ChatGPT NSFW and adult mode page.
What about Azure OpenAI and Microsoft Foundry?
This is the developer route people find when they search further, and it does not change the answer for personal use. Microsoft's Foundry documentation (dated September 8, 2026) describes content filters in four categories, including sexual, at four severity levels, and lets developers set the blocking threshold. Turning the filters off entirely, or switching to annotate only, "requires approval", and "only customers who have been approved for modified content filtering have full content filtering control." That is a business application process, not a consumer setting, and Microsoft's own code of conduct still sits above it.
Which adult AI should you pay for instead?
It depends on what you were trying to do in Copilot.
You were writing fiction. Copilot inside Word is a decent editor until the explicit chapter, and then it is a liability for your account. A tool built for adult manuscripts fits better, and our AI smut writer page compares seven of them with prices. If you also use ChatGPT for drafts, the exact rule it applies to erotica is quoted on our ChatGPT erotica page.
You want a general assistant with looser rules. Mistral is the interesting case. Its Usage Policy never bans consensual adult erotica by name, Vibe Pro costs $14.99 a month, and it is a capable assistant. It still accepts users from 13, runs a moderation model with a sexual category and bans bypassing it, as our Mistral NSFW breakdown shows. Anthropic is as strict as Microsoft; see Claude NSFW.
You run a creator page and wanted help with fan messages. Drafting flirty replies to subscribers is exactly the kind of work Copilot's adult content ban covers, and it is a poor fit anyway. There is software built specifically as an AI that answers fan DMs for creators, which is a better match than any general assistant.
You wanted a character to talk to. Then you want a companion whose own rules allow adult conversation, that keeps its voice and remembers you. That is what Depravity is: an uncensored AI chat for adults 18 and over, separate from the account that holds your email, unlimited on every plan, from $12 a month billed yearly. Our list of the best uncensored AI chatbots compares us with the alternatives and says where they win.
Frequently asked questions
Is Copilot NSFW?
No. Microsoft's Copilot Terms of Use, effective August 18, 2026, ban using Copilot "to create or share adult content", and the Microsoft Services Agreement bans content involving "nudity, bestiality, pornography". The rule applies to every user and every plan, and Copilot has no adult mode or mature content setting to switch on.
Can Copilot write erotica?
Not within Microsoft's rules. Erotica is adult content under the Copilot code of conduct, and Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman said in October 2025 that erotica is "just not a service we're going to provide." Copilot may soften or refuse a request, and repeated attempts can lead to suspension under Microsoft's terms.
Can you turn off the Copilot NSFW filter?
No. Copilot's settings cover memory, chat history, web search and ads, with no content filter option, and the terms ban "jailbreaking" and "prompt-based manipulation". The only adjustable filters Microsoft offers are in Azure AI Foundry for developers, where turning them off requires an approval process for business customers.
Can Microsoft close my account for NSFW Copilot prompts?
Yes. The Services Agreement allows Microsoft to close your Microsoft account immediately for a code of conduct violation, which can mean losing content licenses, memberships and account balances. The same account signs you in to Outlook.com, OneDrive and Xbox, so the risk reaches well beyond Copilot.
Does Microsoft read my Copilot chats?
It can. The Copilot terms say processing may be "both automated and manual (human)" and warn you not to share anything you would not want reviewed. Microsoft says prompts and responses in the current Copilot app are not used to train its foundation models, and you can delete single chats or your whole history in the privacy dashboard.
Is Copilot Pro still available?
No. Microsoft's support page says Copilot Pro is "no longer available for purchase" and that support for existing subscribers ended August 1, 2026. Microsoft points former subscribers to Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, which carries the same content rules.
Try the conversation Copilot refuses
Use the chat at the top of this page. Start the conversation or scene you tried in Copilot, in plain words, and see how it answers. Your account here is separate from the one that holds your email and files. If it is what you wanted, plans start at $12 a month billed yearly, with every limit printed on the pricing page.
