Poe's own rules do not ban adult content between consenting adults, but most of the bots on Poe do. Poe's Usage Guidelines (last updated November 25, 2025) prohibit sexual content involving minors and "violent and/or nonconsensual sexual content", and then hand the rest to whoever makes the model: every bot is "subject to their policies", which Poe notes may include "restrictions on generating adult content". So the Claude, GPT and Gemini bots refuse on Poe exactly as they do at home, and a $19.99 subscription does not change that.

We read Poe's Usage Guidelines, Terms of Service (last updated March 19, 2026), Terms of Sale (same date), Privacy Policy (last updated April 30, 2026), its help center and its US App Store listing on October 7, 2026. Every Poe quotation and price below comes from those pages.

Does Poe AI allow NSFW?

It depends on the bot, and that is Poe's actual position and not a dodge. Poe is run by Quora and is a storefront for other companies' models. Its Usage Guidelines list ten kinds of prohibited use. Two of them touch sex:

  • "creation of violent, dangerous, sexually explicit or suggestive content involving children and minors; violent and/or nonconsensual sexual content, whether real or simulated"
  • For profile and bot names and icons: no "sexually explicit or graphically violent imagery; slurs, obscenities"

That is all. We searched the Guidelines and the Terms of Service for pornographic, erotic, NSFW and adult content. The only hit is the sentence that passes the question along: "third-party LLMs may have additional usage policies, such as restrictions on generating adult content". Compare that with Anthropic, which bans "erotic chats" by name, or Perplexity, whose terms ban "pornographic" content outright. On paper, Poe is one of the more permissive big platforms.

The Terms even acknowledge the result: "Bots accessed via Poe may produce content that is not suitable for minors."

Which Poe bots refuse adult content

The passthrough clause decides it. The Guidelines link each provider's policy and say your use of a bot "is subject to" it. Here is what that means for the bots most people subscribe to Poe for.

Bots on PoeWhose rules applyWhat those rules say about adult content
Claude modelsAnthropic's Usage Policy, which covers "passthrough access""Do Not Generate Sexually Explicit Content", including erotic chats
GPT modelsOpenAI's usage policies and Model SpecNo erotica outside narrow contexts; the planned adult mode was paused in March 2026
Gemini modelsGoogle's Generative AI Prohibited Use PolicyBans content "created for the purpose of pornography or sexual gratification"
Community and open-model botsPoe's Guidelines plus whatever the bot's maker and model host requireVaries by bot. Poe's own rules do not ban consensual adult text

We covered the three big vendors' documents in detail on our Claude NSFW, ChatGPT NSFW and Gemini NSFW pages. Reaching those models through Poe does not loosen any of it. Anthropic's policy says so in terms: it applies to access through "authorized resellers or passthrough access".

The last row is where adult roleplay on Poe actually happens, and it has two catches. Bot names and icons may not be sexually explicit, so adult bots are hard to find by browsing. And Poe gives you no list of which community bots allow what. You find out by trying, one bot at a time.

Can you get banned from Poe for NSFW?

Yes, and the route is the provider's policy as much as Poe's. The Guidelines end with this: "We reserve the right to block, remove, and/or permanently delete your account, Your Content or Your Bots if they are in breach of these Terms, our policies, the policies of any third-party LLMs which power bots within Poe". The Terms of Service add that Poe may suspend or terminate access "at any time for any reason or no reason".

Jailbreak prompts are named separately. The Guidelines prohibit any conduct that "seeks to circumvent any safety protections within Poe or the LLMs powering the bots on Poe". Coaxing an explicit scene out of a Claude or GPT bot with a workaround prompt therefore breaks two sets of rules at once: the provider's content policy and Poe's circumvention clause. The account you put at risk carries your subscription and your unused points, and points "have no cash value, are non-transferable and non-refundable."

How much does a Poe subscription cost?

Poe's help center says plans start "at $4.99/month". The US App Store listing for Poe (version 6.1.0, released October 5, 2026, rated 16+) shows these in-app purchases:

Item as named on the App StorePrice
Poe Monthly Subscription, Basic$4.99
Poe Annual Subscription, Basic$49.99
Poe Monthly Subscription, Plus$19.99
Poe Annual Subscription, Plus$199.99
Poe Monthly Subscription$19.99
Poe Yearly Subscription$199.99

Apple shows a partial list, so higher tiers sold on the web may exist that we could not read without an account. What every plan buys is compute points. Each bot charges points per message, expensive models charge more, and Poe prices extra points at "$30 per 1M points". Add-on points last one year and "are not refundable, transferable, or redeemable for cash". Free users get a daily allowance that resets every 24 hours and does not roll over.

On refunds, the Terms of Sale say subscription fees "are non-refundable, other than as set forth in our Refund Policy or as determined by Quora", and purchases made through Apple or Google follow those stores' rules. To avoid the next charge you must cancel "on the day before your next recurring billing date".

None of the plans is an adult feature. A subscription raises your point balance and unlocks the newest models. It changes no content rule on any bot.

Is Poe private enough for adult chats?

Poe's privacy policy is clearer than most, and what it says should make you careful. Model providers and bot developers "may receive details about your interactions with bots and apps on Poe (including the contents of your chats and photos or documents you upload)". Your username and email are not passed to them. But one sentence matters for anyone using community bots: "Developers that create bots and apps on Poe using APIs may view and store your chats on their servers to train their models."

In other words, the independent bots most likely to permit adult roleplay are also the ones whose makers may keep and train on what you write. Poe's own advice in the same policy is to "exercise caution and avoid sharing sensitive personal information with the bots". The Terms of Service separately give Poe a "perpetual license" to your content to run and improve the service.

Where Poe is the better buy

For almost everything except adult conversation. Poe puts the leading models from several companies behind one login and one bill, with file uploads, image and video bots, group chats and an API. If you compare models for work, it is cheaper than holding three separate $20 subscriptions, and the $4.99 Basic plan is a fair way to try that. If your work is rewriting pages so they rank, a dedicated AI SEO tool that audits and rewrites your pages will take that job further than a general chat bot can. Poe also has a free tier and mobile apps. We have neither.

Poe AI alternatives for adult chat

If the reason you opened Poe was adult roleplay or frank conversation, you are choosing between three kinds of product. Our Poe AI alternative page matches each one to a reason for leaving, including why long roleplay burns points faster on Poe.

FlowGPT Plus$14.99Terms ban "pornographic" content; NSFW bots are in the catalog anywayFlux per message on premium models

Depravity (ours)$15, or $12 billed yearlyAllowed between consenting adults; hard lines on minors, non-consent and anything illegalNone. No points, credits or caps

FlowGPT's figures were read on October 7, 2026 and Janitor's on October 6, 2026; the detail is on our FlowGPT NSFW and Janitor AI subscription pages. Check every row at checkout, ours included.

We built Depravity for the case Poe leaves to chance: an uncensored AI chat for adults 18 and over, where explicit content between consenting adults is allowed by our own rules on every plan, and where the limits are three lines you can read before you pay (nothing involving minors, nothing non-consensual, nothing illegal). There are no points to budget and no bot-by-bot guessing. A companion keeps its voice and remembers you between sessions. Chats are encrypted, never sold, never shared and never used to train advertising, and you can export or delete them. We use automated and human review to enforce the three hard lines, and we say so.

Plans are on the pricing page. If you want the wider field ranked, see our best uncensored AI chatbots comparison.

Which should you pay for?

If you want many models for work and the occasional mild scene from a community bot, Poe Basic at $4.99 is hard to argue with. If you want a large library of user-made characters and do not mind a per-message meter, FlowGPT or Janitor are closer fits. If adult conversation is the main thing you want and you would rather it be permitted in writing than tolerated bot by bot, pay for a product whose rules say so. That is the one we sell, from $12 a month billed yearly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Poe AI NSFW?

Poe is a general AI platform rated 16+ on the US App Store, not an adult product. Its own Usage Guidelines do not ban consensual adult text, but each bot follows its provider's policy, and the Claude, GPT and Gemini bots all refuse explicit content. Some community bots are looser; Poe publishes no list of which.

Does Poe have an NSFW filter you can turn off?

No. We found no adult setting or filter toggle in Poe's Guidelines, Terms or help center. Content limits come from the model behind each bot, and Poe's Guidelines prohibit trying "to circumvent any safety protections within Poe or the LLMs powering the bots", so jailbreak prompts are a bannable offense.

How old do you have to be to use Poe?

Thirteen. Poe's Terms of Service prohibit use by anyone under 13 and require users below the age of majority to have a parent or guardian accept the terms. The privacy policy says Poe may ask for a date of birth depending on your location.

What is the best Poe AI alternative for NSFW roleplay?

One that permits it in its own rules for every conversation. Depravity is an uncensored AI chat for adults 18 and over with explicit content allowed between consenting adults, no points or per-message charges, and plans from $15 a month or $12 billed yearly. It does not offer multiple vendor models, images or a free tier; Poe does.
