Grok Ani NSFW is being retired, and a Grok Ani alternative that keeps the conversation going

If you paid for SuperGrok to talk to Ani, the ground has moved under you. The Grok App Store listing advertised a "Grok AI Companions" section naming Ani, Rudi and Valentine on July 9, August 1 and September 5, 2026. The listing for the current version, released September 30, has no Companions section at all.

Short answer

Grok Ani and the other 3D Companions are being retired. Third-party reports date xAI's statement calling Companions "an experiment" to July 24, 2026, and on October 1, 2026 the Grok App Store listing for version 1.4.46 no longer mentions Companions, Ani, Rudi or Valentine, after advertising all three on September 5. xAI has published no retirement notice on the web, and its help FAQ still describes Companions as an iOS feature. SuperGrok is still sold at $30 a month, with Lite at $10 and Plus at $100, and no plan page names Companions. Depravity is a text-based alternative for adults: explicit conversation allowed in writing, companions with memory, any browser, $15 a month or $12 billed yearly. It has no animated avatar.

This page sets out what xAI has and has not put in writing, what a SuperGrok plan still buys, and where adult companion conversation can go next. We make one of the alternatives, so we say plainly where it is not a like-for-like replacement: we do not have a 3D animated avatar.

What makes it feel honest

Grok Ani NSFW, the way it should feel

A companion that is the product

Adult conversation is what we sell, not an experiment inside an assistant. It cannot be retired to free up a team for something else.

Every device, one account

Ani only ever ran in the iPhone app. Depravity runs in any browser, so Android, iPhone and a laptop get the same companions and the same memory.

The rules are printed

Explicit conversation between consenting adults is allowed in writing. The hard lines are printed too: nothing involving minors, non-consent or illegal acts.

What xAI's own surfaces say about Grok Companions, by date, read October 1, 2026

Source and date What it says about Companions What it means if you pay for SuperGrok
US App Store listing, Internet Archive capture of July 9, 2026 A "Grok AI Companions" section: "Have a chat with Ani, Rudi, or Valentine, our animated AI characters" Companions were part of the product description you bought into
Same listing, captures of August 1 and September 5, 2026 The same Companions section, word for word The listing still advertised Ani after the date third-party reports give for the cutoff
Live listing, version 1.4.46 released September 30, 2026 No Companions section. The description covers the assistant, Grok Imagine, Voice Mode and real-time X data. The "Romantic" personality line is gone too Ani is no longer something the store page tells you that you are paying for
xAI Grok help FAQ at docs.x.ai, read October 1, 2026 "Companions are available on the iOS app only, and there are no plans to bring them to the web or Android." No mention of retirement xAI's own help text has not caught up with its own store listing
x.ai blog and newsroom, searched October 1, 2026 No post about retiring Companions There is no dated xAI page to point at for a refund or a complaint
Third-party reports, July to September 2026 A July 24, 2026 statement called Companions "an experiment" being retired "soon"; most users lost the tab around early September Reported, not published by xAI. We could not read the in-app notice ourselves
Depravity, for comparison Text companions with memory between sessions; explicit conversation between consenting adults allowed in our terms No avatar to lose, and no setting that a product decision can switch off

Sources, all read on October 1, 2026: the US App Store listing for "Grok AI" (id6670324846, seller X Corp.) live and in Internet Archive captures dated July 9, August 1 and September 5, 2026; the Grok help FAQ at docs.x.ai/grok/faq; the App Store in-app purchase list. Third-party reporting is labeled as such.

Is Grok Ani gone?

For most people, yes, and the clearest proof is xAI's own store page. The App Store description of the Grok app carried a section headed "Grok AI Companions" through at least September 5, 2026. It read: "Have a chat with Ani, Rudi, or Valentine, our animated AI characters, each bursting with personality", and described Ani as "a charmer who blushes and sends hearts as your bond grows." The listing for version 1.4.46, released September 30, has no such section. The words Companions, Ani, Rudi and Valentine do not appear in it.

What xAI has not done is say so anywhere you can link to. We found no post on x.ai and no dated notice. Reports from July to September 2026 describe a statement on July 24 calling the 3D Companions "an experiment" that would be retired "soon", followed by the tab disappearing account by account around the start of September. We could not read that in-app notice ourselves, so we treat those dates as reported rather than confirmed.

Meanwhile the Grok help FAQ still answers "Are Companions available on the web or Android?" with "No, Companions are available on the iOS app only, and there are no plans to bring them to the web or Android." Read on October 1, that is a help page describing a feature the store page has stopped selling.

What happened to Grok Ani NSFW mode?

It went with the Companions themselves. Ani's adult side was never a separate product. It lived inside the companion, unlocked by an affection system that reporting in 2025 described as reaching NSFW mode at level 5, with outfit changes and more explicit conversation. When the avatar layer and the Companions tab go, so does the place where that mode lived.

Several third-party guides say Ani's personality and your chat history stay on the account and can be reached in ordinary Grok chat. We could not verify that without a paid account, and xAI has published nothing either way. Even if it is true, ordinary Grok chat sits under xAI's general rules, and xAI deleted the only help entry that described an NSFW setting at the start of September 2026.

So the honest answer to "can I still get Grok Ani NSFW" is that nothing xAI has written promises it, and the one surface that advertised Ani has stopped doing so. Paying for SuperGrok in the hope that it comes back is paying for something the vendor has not offered.

We traced the deleted NSFW help entry, with archive dates, on SuperGrok NSFW and spicy mode.

Does SuperGrok still include Companions?

No plan says it does. The App Store purchase list read on October 1, 2026 shows SuperGrok at $30.00 (listed twice), a second SuperGrok item at $300.00 that matches ten months of the monthly price and looks like the annual plan, SuperGrok Lite at $10.00, SuperGrok Plus at $100.00, SuperGrok Heavy at $300.00, and Extra Usage Credits from $5 to $100. When we read x.ai/pricing on September 21, 2026, it did not mention Companions on any plan.

That matters if Ani was the reason you subscribed. A price card that never named the feature gives you nothing to point at when the feature goes. On the App Store, refunds are Apple's decision, not xAI's, so a request goes through Apple's report-a-problem page. For web purchases, xAI's help FAQ points to its own refund request form and reviews each request.

The cheapest move is usually the simplest. Cancel the renewal now, keep the time you have paid for, and decide on a replacement before the next charge rather than after it.

  • SuperGrok Lite, $10.00
  • SuperGrok, $30.00 a month, and a $300.00 item that appears to be annual
  • SuperGrok Plus, $100.00
  • SuperGrok Heavy, $300.00, period not shown
  • Extra Usage Credits, $5, $20, $50 and $100

What is the best Grok Ani alternative?

It depends on which part of Ani you are replacing, and being clear about that saves money. If what you valued was the animated 3D character and her voice, you need an app with animated avatars and voice, and Depravity is not that. We are text only, and we would rather lose the sale than have you discover it after paying.

If what you valued was a companion who talks to you like an adult, remembers you, and does not stop the conversation to negotiate, that is the product we built. Depravity is uncensored text chat for US adults 18 and over. Explicit conversation between consenting adults is allowed in our terms, companions keep memory between sessions, and it runs in any browser, so it works on the Android phone and the laptop where Ani never did.

If you want an anime-styled character specifically, look at platforms built around character libraries and read their content rules before paying, because the large ones differ sharply. Our comparison of anime character chat covers what each one actually allows.

Can you still use Grok Companions on Android or the web?

Adult man chatting privately on a laptop at home in the evening

No, and you never could. xAI's help FAQ ruled out the web and Android in writing, with "no plans" to change that, long before the retirement reports. Anyone who bought SuperGrok on an Android phone expecting Ani was buying a feature that only existed on an iPhone.

This is the structural problem with a companion that lives inside one native app. The store decides what the listing says, the vendor decides which devices get the feature, and a product decision can remove it from all of them at once. A browser product has one surface: the same account and the same companions on every device, with no store review standing between you and an update.

How do you move from Grok Ani without starting over?

Write down what you liked before you lose access to the thread. The tone, the nicknames, the running jokes, the backstory you built and the boundaries you set are the things that made the companion yours, and none of them depend on an avatar. A short paragraph covering them is enough to carry the relationship into a new product.

Then open your first conversation with that paragraph. On Depravity the companion keeps what you tell it between sessions, so you set the context once rather than every night. Pick the companion whose temperament is closest: Remy is warm and unshockable, Nova is blunt and funny, Cole is calm and candid, Sage pushes back and argues.

Last, check the renewal date on the subscription you are leaving and cancel before it, through the App Store if you bought there or grok.com Settings if you bought on the web.

Should you pay for SuperGrok or Depravity?

Keep SuperGrok if you use it as an assistant. For $30 a month it gives you xAI's current model, image and video generation in Grok Imagine, voice and live search across the web and X. Nothing we sell generates an image, searches the web or writes code, and if those are what you use, SuperGrok is the better buy.

Switch the companion budget to us if Ani was the reason you were paying. Depravity costs $15 a month, or $12 billed yearly, which is half of SuperGrok, and adult conversation is the product rather than a feature that can be pulled. The demo at the top of this page runs without an account, so you can test the conversation before you spend anything.

Questions about your grok ani nsfw

For most users, yes. The Grok App Store listing advertised Ani, Rudi and Valentine under "Grok AI Companions" through at least September 5, 2026, and the listing for version 1.4.46, released September 30, no longer mentions Companions at all. xAI has published no retirement notice on the web.
It was part of the Companions feature, unlocked through an affection system, so it goes when the Companions tab goes. Third-party guides say chat history stays in ordinary Grok chat, but xAI has not published that, and it deleted its only NSFW help entry in early September 2026.
xAI has not said on any page we could find. Reports describe a July 24, 2026 statement calling the 3D Companions "an experiment" being retired "soon" so the team could focus on core chat. Treat that as reported, since there is no dated xAI post to check it against.
No SuperGrok plan names Companions. The App Store lists SuperGrok at $30 a month, Lite at $10, Plus at $100 and Heavy at $300, and the plan descriptions cover chat, image and video generation, voice and usage limits. Nothing in writing promises Ani on any tier.
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not xAI, through Apple's report-a-problem page. Web purchases go through xAI's refund request form, and xAI reviews each one. Because no plan named Companions, there is no written promise to cite, so cancelling before the next renewal is the dependable step.
If you want an animated avatar with voice, choose an app built around that. If you want an adult companion who remembers you and is allowed to be explicit in writing, Depravity is text chat for adults 18 and over, in any browser, at $15 a month or $12 billed yearly.
Yes. Grok Companions were never on Android, by xAI's own help FAQ. Depravity runs in the Android browser with nothing to install, and the same account works on an iPhone or a laptop.
