What does "spicy AI chat" actually mean?

The word arrived as a euphemism and then stuck, mostly because "spicy" is the term that survives content moderation on app stores, ad platforms and payment processors when "adult" or "NSFW" does not. That commercial origin is exactly why it is so vague: it was chosen to be non-specific.

In practice it now covers three separate things, and knowing which one you are looking for saves a lot of wasted signups.

Several of them are, and it is worth being direct about that rather than pretending our paid product is the only route. In January 2026 the California Attorney General opened an investigation after Grok produced non-consensual and apparent-minor deepfake imagery, and country-level blocks followed. Through the year xAI kept tightening the moderation, restricting availability by region and platform, and reporting describes the setting disappearing from the web version for most users while surviving in the mobile apps for paid, age-verified subscribers. Users have publicly complained that prompts which worked one week were refused the next.

We could not verify the current tier prices or the exact per-region availability from xAI directly, because x.ai and grok.com both refuse automated requests, so treat any page quoting precise Grok figures with caution, including the ones that sound authoritative. What is safe to say is the direction: the feature has become more gated every quarter since launch, not less. If you built a habit on it, that trend is the thing to plan around.

What actually breaks a spicy AI chat

The complaints in this category are remarkably consistent, and none of them are about the model being insufficiently explicit. They are about the experience falling apart in the same three ways.

The first is the mid-scene refusal, where the conversation is going fine and then a moderation layer cuts in and the character asks whether you are okay. A tool that declines something up front is far less annoying than one that lets you invest twenty exchanges and then breaks the frame. The second is amnesia: you set up a premise, come back the next day, and the character has no idea who you are, because the product stores conversation context rather than memory. The third is the slow tonal drift back toward customer service, where an adult persona gradually starts writing like a help desk.

Are spicy AI chats private?

Crushon's policy says it may use content from character chats to train its AI models, and Mozilla's Privacy Not Included review logged 45 trackers inside a minute on its site. Google keeps Gemini conversations selected for human review for up to three years, and deleting your activity does not remove those copies.

Our own position, stated precisely so you can hold us to it: conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold, never shared with data brokers or marketers, and never used to train advertising. You can export or delete any conversation from settings. We do run automated and limited human review, and we say so plainly, because it is the only way to enforce the hard lines below. Anyone in this category claiming zero review of any kind is either not enforcing a policy or is not telling you the whole story.

The lines we do not cross

Uncensored is not the same as unlimited, and a product that pretends otherwise is lying to you. Ours is 18 and over, US adults, and there are three things that are never permitted regardless of framing, fiction or persona: anything sexual involving minors, anything depicting non-consent, and anything illegal.

Those are not filters that occasionally trigger by accident on ordinary adult conversation. They are enforced boundaries, and they are the reason automated and human review exists on the account. Everything outside them is yours to steer.
