SpicyChat alternative: what SpicyChat costs and what its age check now asks for

What is SpicyChat?

SpicyChat is an adult AI roleplay platform built around characters. Users create chatbots, publish them, and talk to characters other people have built, which has produced one of the largest character libraries in the category. Its documentation describes more than ten different AI models across its tiers, group chats, a director mode for steering a scene, lorebooks for world detail, and an importer for characters built elsewhere. It is a serious product with a lot of surface area.

Its stated philosophy is unusually explicit for this market. The documentation says the fundamental belief is that "everyone should have a safe, private space to explore their deepest desires", alongside "strict guidelines against illegal activities" and moderation on public pages. That combination, permissive in private and moderated in public, is roughly the same position we take, and it is worth acknowledging that SpicyChat wrote it down first.

The free tier is the reason it grew. Its docs describe a plan to introduce paid tiers while "the core features remain accessible to everyone, free of charge", and by most accounts it has kept to that. Adult roleplay at no cost, without a trial clock, is rare, and any honest comparison has to start by conceding it.

How much does SpicyChat cost?

SpicyChat has three paid tiers, and its own documentation names them and describes what they unlock without telling you what they cost. Get A Taste removes ads, gives you 4K context memory, a memory manager and up to 10 personas. True Supporter raises context to 8K, adds Semantic Memory 2.0, longer replies up to around 300 tokens, conversation images, access to advanced models and up to 50 personas. I'm All In adds text to speech, 16K context, priority generation, generation settings, access to SpicyXL and other premium models, and up to 100 personas.

The prices are the weak link. The pricing page at spicychat.ai renders entirely in JavaScript, so a normal request returns an empty shell rather than any numbers, and we do not print figures we cannot read at the source. Third-party reviews consistently report about $5 a month for Get A Taste, $14.95 for True Supporter and $24.95 for I'm All In, with roughly 17% off if you pay annually. Those sources agree with each other and the tier names match the official docs exactly, which is decent corroboration, but it is still not the same as reading it on the pricing page. Check before you buy.

It is worth noticing what people search for around this. Autocomplete on the brand is dominated by coupon queries, which is usually what happens when a free tier is good enough to attract a large audience and the upgrade feels like a step up in price rather than a small one. If you are hunting a discount code, the annual plan is the discount that actually exists.

For comparison, we charge $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, with Unfiltered at $29 and Boundless at $59, published on the pricing page with the contents of each tier written next to the number. We are more expensive than SpicyChat's entry tier and we have no free plan at all. What you get for that is a price you can read before you decide and a bill that does not change.

SpicyChat age verification: what changed

This is the single biggest reason people started looking for a SpicyChat alternative in 2026, so here is the honest version. Multiple independent outlets report that SpicyChat began requiring age verification before showing adult content, with a policy dated to late 2025 and enforcement rolling out through 2026 across the UK, France, Italy, Australia and a growing list of US states. Reporting in mid 2026 put the US figure at around two dozen states, added one at a time rather than all at once.

The mechanism matters more than the count. By these accounts the default check is a video selfie, which a third-party verification vendor scores to estimate your age, with a manual government ID check as the fallback if the estimate fails. SpicyChat itself is described as receiving a yes or no answer rather than your face or your documents, which is the better of the two ways to build this and worth crediting.

Even done well, that is a real change in what using the product costs you. You are creating an identity record with a verification vendor in order to have a private conversation, and identity verification vendors are themselves targets. If you are in one of the affected states, the practical question is not whether SpicyChat is trustworthy, it is whether you want your face or your driver's license attached to an adult AI account at all.

We should be precise about our own position rather than selling around it. Depravity is for adults 18 and over, we ask you to confirm that, and payment by card is itself an adult signal. We do not currently ask anyone to film their face or upload identity documents. We are not offering a way around any state's law, and we would not: age rules apply to every operator in this category, us included, and if the law where you live requires something more from us we will comply with it. What we can tell you is what we ask for today, which is a card and your word that you are an adult.

Is SpicyChat safe?

On the things you can check, SpicyChat does several of them well. It publishes community guidelines and product documentation openly, without a login. It states plainly that "all users must be at least 18 years old". Its rules against content involving minors are explicit rather than implied. That is more public documentation than a lot of this market bothers with.

The gap is the same one we found on a competitor last week, and it is worth naming precisely because it is an absence rather than a scandal. The public documentation we could read covers models, tiers, characters, community rules and support, but it does not say whether your conversations are used to train or fine-tune models, and it does not describe how long chats are retained. The terms and privacy pages on the main site do not render to a plain fetch, so we could not read them either. That is not evidence of anything bad. It means the question is unanswered in the places we could reach, and on a platform designed for candid adult conversation it is a question worth having answered before you type.

The other safety consideration is more concrete and comes from SpicyChat's own docs: on Android, the official app is an APK you download from their website. Installing software from outside an app store means turning off a protection your phone ships with, and it means you are responsible for making sure the file you downloaded is the real one. That is a normal thing for adult platforms to have to do, because the app stores will not carry them, but it is a genuine tradeoff rather than a detail.

Why there is no SpicyChat app in the App Store

People search for this constantly, and SpicyChat answers it directly in its documentation: it "does not have a native iOS app on Apple App Store". The suggested workaround is to add the web version to your home screen, which gives you an icon and a full-screen window but is still the website. Any listing you find claiming to be SpicyChat for iPhone is not the official product.

Android is different but not by much. There is an official Android app, and the docs say it is distributed "via direct APK download from our website" rather than through Google Play. So the honest summary is that SpicyChat is a web product with an Android sideload, not an app-store app on either platform. That is not carelessness on their part. Both stores enforce content rules that adult AI chat cannot meet, which is why almost nothing in this category is on them.

Our answer to the same problem is to stop pretending an app is the goal. Depravity runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, at the same address, with the same conversation and the same memory. Add it to your home screen if you want the icon. There is nothing to sideload, no security prompt to override, and no app that can be pulled from a store you have already installed it from.

What SpicyChat actually prohibits

Uncensored never means unlimited, on any legitimate platform, and SpicyChat's community guidelines are a good illustration. Every user must be 18 or over, and every chatbot "must be portrayed as adults over 18 years old". All narratives must involve people 18 or older. Non-consent is barred outright: no bot may "depict, promote, or involve in any non-consensual actions, even in fictional settings". Content promoting self-harm or illegal activity is prohibited.

There are also limits people do not expect. Imagery that cannot be easily distinguished from real photography is not allowed, and neither are bots based on real private or lesser-known individuals, as opposed to fictional characters or public figures. If your mental model of an uncensored platform was that anything goes, the actual rulebook is narrower than the marketing.

We hold the same hard lines and we would rather say so on the way in than enforce them as a surprise. Nothing involving minors, nothing non-consensual, nothing illegal. Those are not filters we would remove for a higher tier, and any service in this category telling you otherwise is either lying to you or is going to have a very short life.

Where SpicyChat beats us

The free tier, first and without qualification. You can use SpicyChat for adult roleplay without paying anything, and we have no equivalent. For a lot of people that ends the comparison, and it should. We are paid only because we would rather answer to subscribers than to advertisers, but a principled reason to charge is still a reason you are being charged.

Character breadth is the second. A public library of user-built characters, plus import tools, lorebooks, group chats and a director mode, is more raw variety than a small in-house set of personas will ever offer. If browsing is the pleasure, SpicyChat is built for browsing and we are not.

Model choice is the third. More than ten models across the tiers, including their own SpicyXL at the top plan, means you can shop for a voice that suits you. We run a smaller, tuned setup and make that choice for you. That is a real trade and plenty of people would rather have the dial.

Who each one is for

Choose SpicyChat if you want the largest character library in the category, you want to build and share your own characters, you want to pick between many models, or you want adult roleplay without paying. Those are good reasons and it serves them better than we do. If you are in a state or country where it now asks for verification, the question is simply whether you are comfortable with the check.
